Illinois 2010 Elections: Water Commissioner Debra Shore Endorses State Rep Candidate David Shroeder over Ken Dunkin

David Schroeder

(Chicago, IL) – January 15, 2010. Cook County Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Commissioner Debra Shore yesterday endorsed David Schroeder in the Democratic primary for state representative over incumbent Ken Dunkin (D-Chicago) in the Illinois 5th District race.

“David Schroeder has a passion for good government,” said Shore. “Schroeder will bring a sense of what’s right and what’s wrong for the people to the legislative process in Springfield.”

Shore was elected to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District post in 2006, and is a well known environmentalist.

And the first-term commissioner also vouched for Schroeder’s commitment to mass transit.

“David Schroeder will be a champion of transportation policies that are environmentally friendly,” said.

“I’m honored that Debra Shore has endorsed me,” said Schroeder.

In addition to Shore, Schroeder has locked up the endorsements of 42nd Ward alderman Brendan Reilly, 43rd Ward Committeeman Michele Smith, 42nd Ward Committeeman John Corrigan, and Illinois Citizen Action.

Schroeder faces not only Dunkin but also Gwendolyn Drake, both African-Americans in the majority African-American district.

Drake, who has been fund-raising aggressively, could pull enough African-American votes from Dunkin to allow Schroeder to squeeze out a victory by cobbling together 42nd, 43rd Ward and disaffected African-American votes on February 2.

Schroeder—and Drake’s—greatest challenge is time. Will they enough of it to make case against Dunkin and for themselves during the next 18 days?

They’re fighting the odds. But they’re clearly fighting.
