(Evanston, IL) — July 20, 2010. Democratic State Representative candidate Daniel Biss of Evanston, who is seeking the Illinois House seat being vacated by Beth Coulson (R-Glencoe), today announced that his campaign raised over $167,000 in the first six months of 2010, closing June with $244,546.56 cash-on-hand.
Biss’ GOP opponent, Hamilton Chang of Wilmette, raised $50,760 and had $41,555.02 in the bank.
“It’s true we have almost a quarter million on hand, but what’s really grown is our organization and ability to reach out to voters in a very grass roots way,” said Biss
Biss ran against Coulson in 2008, winning almost 49% of the vote.
“Having walked the entire district during 2008, these second and third encounters with voters are a great chance to delve deeper into the issues that matter most to people,” said Biss.
As one of the few open swing Illinois House districts in November, most political observers expect the 17th House District race to be one of the most intensively competitive and painfully expensive races.
