Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno Wants Democratic Lawmakers to Help Nix Pat Quinn’s New AFSCME Contract

(Chicago, IL) — September 28, 2010. Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) wants Democratic lawmakers to convince Governor Pat Quinn to halt the extension of the new AFSCME contract.

According to Illinois News Network reporter Jim Anderson:

The state’s new contract extension with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees has been chewed over in the race for governor. Now, Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno is urging the other side of the aisle to convince the governor not to go through with it for policy reasons — not political ones.

The state’s contract with the largest state workers’ union expires in 15 months, but the governor re-opened the deal early hoping to get concessions. Instead Radogno says Quinn gave away the store, including promises of no layoffs and no state facility closures until the middle of 2012.

The chances are probably zero to none that the Democratic leaders will go along with Radogno’s plea.
